The Fergusons Revive Rockville
Popular Mzansi Magic soapie, Rockville, is set to make a surprising return onscreen.
This follows an announcement by entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, that Ferguson Films has revived the show and they are already shooting episodes
Rockville ran for 4 seasons and ended in 2016, but it seems the executive producers have decided to give it a shot on the arm.
The telenovela was the brainchild of Connie and Shona Ferguson and the dynamic duo of Phathu Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon who served as the head writers.
It focuses on two middle class families, the Bogatsus and the Mabasos, who have an ongoing feud over the past and several lifestyle and family dynamics.
Connie Ferguson played the role of the matriarchal Mavis Mabaso who lives in Rockville, Soweto while Alex Ferguson played the wealthy patriarch of the Bogatsu family. Jackson “JB” Bogatsu who ran an underground pimping service.
Shona Ferguson once revealed in an interview how Rockville came to be saying
“The premise of Rockville was always at the back of my mind. But we took it further in and we decided to break it down and develop the series.
“We, (him and Connie) wrote the outline and story arc and then phoned Phathu Makwarela. I called and said: ‘There is something Connie and I are working on. Do you mind seeing us and talking about it?’ He has such a brilliant and genius mind. He understood what we wanted.
“Then we got on board with Gwydion Beynon, he is the senior writer on the series. We four developed the story and characters and got more experienced writers to breakdown the treatment.
With everyone all grown up now, we wonder which premise the storyline will pick from.
