‘The Maphorisa Effect’ Thuli Phongolo Clears The Air On Deleting Instagram Posts
Recently, South African actress-turned-DJ Thulisile ‘Thuli’ Phongolo took to her Instagram Stories to explain the reason behind her decision to delete all her posts on the platform.
The Night at the Club
The former Generations: The Legacy actress, looking glamorous, revealed that she was all dressed up and ready to hit the club. She had a scheduled DJ performance at around 02:00 and thought it would be a good opportunity to connect with her fans and followers while waiting.
Phongolo had made headlines previously when she accused her boyfriend DJ Maphorisa (real name Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe) of physically assaulting her in one of their apartments in Sandton. In a statement quoted by City Press, she described the incident saying, “He held me and took me to the balcony, and grabbed me aggressively by my neck.”
The Speculations Behind the Deleted Posts
Shortly after the assault news broke, people noticed that Phongolo had cleared her entire Instagram feed. Speculations arose, and fans and followers could only assume that the reason behind the deletion was related to the recent headlines.
However, Phongolo has now addressed these speculations and revealed that she and her team were working on rebranding her image.
Rebranding Plans
Phongolo explained that she felt her brand was stuck in a state of unrealized potential and not evolving as she desired. She expressed that many of the pictures on her feed did not accurately reflect the work she was involved in and instead showcased more of a “pretty girl” living a luxurious life.
In response, Phongolo and her team made the decision to strip her feed and start anew, ensuring that her brand aligns with her current position and future aspirations.
