Babes Wodumo, a well-known South African Gqom artist, is facing controversy over a new track she collaborated on with DJ Kotini. The song, meant to rejuvenate Babes Wodumo’s music career, has sparked a conflict between the two artists, escalating tensions over its release.
Just over a week ago, DJ Kotini took to social media to share a video that captured him and Babes Wodumo recording a new song. In the post, he confidently announced that this collaboration would reignite Babes Wodumo’s music career, implying that her comeback was imminent. “She is coming back,” he enthusiastically wrote, tagging Babes in the post. However, what initially seemed an exciting project for both artists has become a complicated dispute.
Babes Wodumo Reportedly Wants to Keep Track
According to insiders, Babes Wodumo is now reluctant to release the song. Sources revealed to ZiMoja that DJ Kotini initially approached Babes, asking her to feature on the track alongside another artist, Madanon. The song, titled Nzo Nzo Nzo, was anticipated to be a summer hit. However, during a listening session, Babes and her management reportedly decided to hold onto the song after realizing its potential for success.

A source close to the situation explained: “Babes and her recording company became hesitant to let the song go after realizing it could be a major hit. After hearing the final version, they changed their minds and decided they wanted to keep it for themselves.”
This change of heart has left DJ Kotini in a difficult position, especially since he had been the one to organize and finance the recording session. The source also mentioned that DJ Kotini had specifically requested Babes to feature on the track, making this sudden shift in plans even more frustrating for him.
DJ Kotini’s Frustration Grows
The insider further revealed that DJ Kotini feels increasingly frustrated by the situation. His plans to release the track as part of an album scheduled for the festive season have been put on hold due to Babes’ reluctance to release the song.
“DJ Kotini is upset because he’s trying to plan his release and even his holiday, but Babes is making things difficult,” the source explained.
Kotini reportedly suggested releasing the track as a collaborative group effort, but Babes has remained firm.
DJ Kotini Stands His Ground
From DJ Kotini’s perspective, the song is undeniably his, with Babes Wodumo playing a supporting role as a featured artist. He expressed his disappointment with the situation in a statement to ZiMoja: “That is my song, and she knows that.” He also confirmed that his single would drop later this month, toward the end of September, while the song in question would be part of his whole album.
