This Is Why The Department Of Home Affairs Wants To Revoke Dr Nandipha’s Passport
The Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has revealed that it intends to revoke Dr. Nandipha’s passport after saying she does not deserve it.
Following investigations, it has been revealed that Thabo Bester received assistance in his escape from the Mangaung Correctional Facility in Free State in 2022.
The people involved in aiding his escape were identified as Dr. Nandipha Magudumana, her father Zolile Sekeleni, and five G4S security officials.
After his escape, it is believed that a civilian captured photographs of the couple as they were purchasing groceries at a supermarket in Johannesburg.
These images led to startling revelations, exposing the falsehood propagated by the Department of Correctional Services in May 2022.
Contrary to their reports, it was discovered that Thabo Bester did not die in cell 35. Instead, the charred remains found belonged to Katlego Bereng, a 32-year-old father of two young children.
In light of the information that Bester was wanted by authorities for his audacious escape, Magudumana and Bester fled South Africa.
Authorities have confirmed that Dr. Nandipha Magudumana and Thabo Bester utilized counterfeit passports during their escape.
On April 7, 2023, they were arrested in Tanzania and subsequently deported to South Africa. The expenses incurred by the state for their extradition amounted to a significant R1.4 million.
“The Department of Home Affairs has obtained legal advice that there are strong legal grounds to revoke the passport of Dr Magudumana and that firm action must be taken to that effect,” said DHA Minister Aaron Motsoaledi.
Asked why Magudumana’s passport should be revoked, Motsoaledi responded that it is required by law.
“I need to explain this. You are aware that in Tanzania, three passports were found on Magudumana; two of the passports belonged to Dr Mmereka Patience Martha Ntshani, and one belonged to her. It is a valid passport; this is the passport we are revoking in terms of the law because she no longer deserves to have it,” said Motsoaledi.
