“Those Who Touch Us Will Perish”: Zandile Khumalo Boastful Remarks After Senzo Meyiwa Trial Raises Eyebrows
In a dramatic turn of events, Zandile “Zandie” Khumalo, the embattled musician, took to social media to celebrate herself as a “warrior” and a “hero” shortly after her appearance at the North Gauteng High Court for cross-examination in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.
Zandile Khumalo, known for her hit song “Ikhwela,” was under cross-examination in the highly-watched and controversial rebooted trial, presided over by Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng. During her testimony and cross-examination, she exhibited a surprising level of rudeness and arrogance.
Zandile Khumalo’s Fiery Proclamation Following Senzo Meyiwa Trial
After the defense lawyer wrapped up his cross-examination on yesterday, Tuesday, July 25, Zandile took to Instagram and shared a lengthy post, quoting lyrics from Zuko and Nwabisa’s song titled “Qhawe Lam.”
In her post, she declared,
“The time of shrinking to make others comfortable is over, the time of dimming our light to make others comfortable is over, the time of suppressing our magic to make others comfortable is over.”
The singer went on to shower herself with praise, stating that she is a warrior.
“Zandile Lorraine Khumalo, you are a warrior, uliqhawe [hero], and I fall in love with you every day.” She proudly identified herself as a public figure and even referred to herself as “Popola Mapopola” – the one who peeps.
However, it was the closing lines of her post that raised eyebrows and generated controversy. Quoting a Zulu proverb, Zandile Khumalo wrote,
“BATHINTA THINA BAZOFA BAPHELE IMIKHONTO YETHU INGCOLILE… NGEKE ZULU NGEKE [Those who touch us will perish, our spears are dirty… No, Zulu nation, no].”
As news of her Instagram post spread, social media erupted with reactions, with many expressing shock at her self-proclaimed warrior persona and her audacious remarks about those who oppose her. Critics were quick to condemn her apparent arrogance and sense of invincibility.
The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has already been a subject of intense public interest, and Zandile Khumalo’s controversial behavior and self-aggrandizing statements have only added fuel to the fire. Observers are now keenly awaiting further developments in the trial and how her testimony might impact the proceedings.
