Tlof Tlof Woes: Tshwane Landlord Evicts Tenants Over Naughty Business
A group of tenants in a building in Tshwane were evicted on Tuesday after their landlord accused them of running a tlof tlof and drug ring from their apartments.
The Tshwane Tenant complains Over Tlof Tlof
Daily Sun reports that the landlord, Abel Tau, a member of the ActionSA party and the MMC for Human Settlements in Tshwane, said he had received numerous complaints from other residents and neighbours about the tlof tlof noise, traffic and criminal activities in the building.
“I had no choice but to evict them. They were ruining the reputation of the building and the neighbourhood. They were also violating their lease agreements and the law. I have zero tolerance for pr*stitution and drugs in my properties,” Tau said.
Tau explained that he gave the tenants two options: to go to Lindela Repatriation Centre, where they would be sheltered and fed for six months, or to go to Dubai. He said he had arranged free flights for those who chose to leave.
“I was generous enough to offer them a way out. I could have just called the police and had them arrested. But I wanted to give them a chance to start a new life somewhere else,” Tau said.
Tshwane Tenants Deny The Tlof Tlof Allegations By Their Landlord
However, some of the tenants disputed Tau’s allegations and said they were innocent victims of his political agenda. They said they had been living peacefully in the building for years and had never engaged in any illegal activities.
“He is lying. He is just trying to get rid of us because we are foreigners, and he doesn’t like us. He is also trying to distract people from his own scandal. He is the one who should be evicted, not us,” said one of the tenants, who asked not to be named.
The tenant was referring to the recent accusation of attempted rape against Tau, which is still under investigation. Tau allegedly tried to sleep with his friend’s wife after a night of heavy beer binging.
Digging In
The evicted tenants said they would not go to Lindela or Dubai but would seek legal advice and challenge Tau’s decision in court.
“We have rights. We are not criminals. We are hardworking people who pay our rent and taxes. We will not let him get away with this injustice,” the tenant said.
