Mpumalanga Caretaker killed by pitbull
According to the police, the deceased was employed as a caretaker by the pit bull’s owner. The attack took place over the weekend when the man returned home in the early hours of Friday morning. The victim, who lived on his employer’s property, was responsible for caring for the dogs, including the pit bull that ultimately ended his life.
Provincial police spokesperson Donald Mdhluli provided further information on the incident:
“The man was a caretaker of the pit bulls and resided in the yard of his employer. He was found lifeless by a security guard on the premises, who noticed multiple injuries on the victim’s body. The pit bull involved in the attack was also discovered near the scene.”

Victim Found Lifeless at the Scene
Upon arrival, the police confirmed the gruesome details. The victim lay motionless on the ground, showing clear signs of injuries consistent with a dog attack. Despite efforts to assist, medical personnel on the scene pronounced the man dead. His body bore visible wounds inflicted during the attack.
The pit bull remained near the victim until officials arrived, indicating its involvement in the fatal attack.
Authorities Respond to the Incident
The local police, along with animal welfare authorities, have since responded to the incident. The pit bull responsible for the attack, along with other dogs on the property, were later declared dead by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). This step was likely taken to ensure the safety of the public and prevent any further harm.
