Trompies member and music legend Eugene Mthethwa’s son almost died after a freak accident on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Eugene Mthethwa’s Son Escapes Freak Accident by A Whisker

Sources close to the EFF MP told ZiMoja that Mthethwa’s son was having a good time with his friends. They then set out on a drive. As the bakkie was moving, Mthethwa’s son suddenly fell off and cracked his skull. He got lucky because he wore a helmet, which saved him from brain damage, but he lost his speech and had to be rushed to the hospital. His condition improved after he received medical attention.

Mthethwa was in Durban for the first KwaZulu-Natal Creative Industry Dialogue, where he was one of the keynote speakers, when he received the news that his son had been involved in a freak accident. He instantly flew back home to be with his son and returned to Durban for the event. He confirmed that his son was recovering and thanked God for sparing his life.

He told the ZiMoja:

“Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t talk about my personal life in the media, but I can confirm that my son is recovering. I’m grateful to the Almighty God I serve.”

Mthethwa is one of the founding members of the legendary Kwaito group Trompies, who gave South Africa hit songs such as Sweety Lavo, Magasman, and Bengimngaka. He is also an outspoken politician who represents the EFF in parliament.
