Lusizo Canda Dies After Being Fired

The recent blow came with the passing of Lusizo Canda, the producer of the station’s Breakfast Eyondlayo Ekuseni (BEE) show, who reportedly died at his home on Thursday. The news was shared by the station on its official Facebook page, expressing condolences and honouring Canda’s contribution to the team.

“Lala Ngoxolo, Lusizo Canda, umdidiyeli we BEE,” read a brief post from the station, mourning the loss.

Details surrounding the cause of Canda’s passing are yet to be disclosed at the time of this report.

Sources within the station revealed that Canda’s health took a sudden turn following news that he would no longer be producing the breakfast show. Colleagues attempted to console him, reassuring him that losing his job didn’t mark the end of his career.

“He was fine in the morning when he came to work in a good mood until he was told the bad news. I tried to encourage him that it was not end of the world or his career,” shared one source.

Another source confirmed the chain of events saying Canda was well until he received the bad news, his worry was his family as he was a breadwinner.

“He loved his job and gave it his all. He was really crushed about the prospect of being unemployed or taking a salary cut because the cost of living is high,” added the source.

Cascade of Loss

Since February, Umhlobo Wenene FM has grappled with profound loss. Reverend Nomathamsanqa Rweqana, celebrated for her contributions to the station’s drama series Ithini Na Lento, along with radio host Sonwabo Yawa, both passed away on February 6 due to illness. Tragically, their departure was followed by the untimely death of voiceover artist Nomampondo Noluthando Simayi, who lost her life in a car accident while returning from Yawa’s funeral. The accident also left drama actors Nokukhanya Kula and Mzwandile Nzenze, as well as senior producer Toffee Zitshu, injured.
