Uzalo’s Mbatha Threatens SABC 1 Management
Uzalo’s Mbatha has harshly demanded SABC to pay up royalties for actors who were part of the popular comedy series, Family Bonds.
SABC1 has been playing repeat episodes of the show.
Mbatha, who played Bra Steve on the show is threatening the SABC management who have not been giving them conclusive feedback on the issue.
He says the comedy series cast has been going back and forth with the TV station for sometime now and nothing has come out of the discussions.
Uzalo’s Mbatha, real name Thabo Mnguni is said to have started demanding royalties a few years ago. And after he got in contact with the channel’s Aobakwe Sekwati, there seemed to be progress in the claims.
But Sekwati has been AWOL since 2020 after asking for claim forms from Thabo in order to release funds.
Now Thabo believes SABC1 is playing games with them and may not be willing to pay up royalties for the show.
The frustrated actor told Daily Sun that he needed this money to feed his family that was affected by Covid-19 effects.
“I am a family man. The money will come in handy since there are a lot of Covid-19 restrictions,” he said.
Fortunate enough for Thabo, SABC spokeswoman Mmoni Seapolelo got in touch with him and promised that the public broadcaster was going to take the issue seriously.
She also gave him email addresses to send his issue to for fast response.
SABC 1 is said to have last paid royalties to Family Bonds back in 2016.
