WATCH| Sundowns Coach Rulani Mokwena’s Emotional Farewell Hug with DJ Mashata Captured on Camera

This weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena and fans of the football club honoured their beloved announcer DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse, who passed away recently.

The football club shared a heartfelt video of DJ Peter “Mashata” Mabuse on Sunday, 28 April, accompanied by a touching message:

“Mamelodi Sundowns pays tribute to our beloved friend and MC, Peter ‘Mashata’ Mabuse. Forever Yellow! Robala Ka Kgotso Mashata. The Msindo Maker.”

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena shared a poignant memory of their last interaction, recalling how Mabuse jokingly asked for a hug.

“There was a joke that we shared between the two of us and he said coach. I know everyone says you are not allowed to give hugs anymore. But can you give me a hug please? And my response was, sure they’re for free, I’ll give you one. Little did I know it was a hug of saying goodbye.”

The funeral service for Mabuse, the Mamelodi Sundowns announcer and comedian, took place on Sunday at the Akasia Community Hall from 08:00.

Mamelodi Sundowns expressed their condolences to Mashata last week, as reported by Sunday World.

Mashata’s employer, the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), also honoured him in a statement, highlighting his dedication and positive impact beyond the university campus.

“Mabuse, has been a loyal employee of TUT where he served as a Residence Advisor for both Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa Campuses. His varied community engagement activities, e.g. as MC and as stadium announcer at Mamelodi Sundowns home matches, had a positive impact on society beyond the gates of the University,” TUT said in a statement.
