For his first special, he offers a free packet of mpesu, a herbal aphrodisiac similar to Viagra, with the purchase of two “Go Down” herbs. If customers aren’t interested in mpesu, they can choose herbs to treat a stomach upset instead.

“Special number one, you can buy two Go Down herbs for 250 and get one mpesu or free running stomach,” the herbal trader shouts at the camera whilst displaying some of his herbs packed in transparent plastic sachets.

The trader goes on to announce more specials saying,

“Special number two, you can buy  2oo gram herb for 300 rand. Special number three, one Go Down herb and one Underground by 250.”

As soon as he finishes announcing his specials, the police van’s siren blares, adding to the humour of the situation. You can watch the video of the man below:

After the video was shared by the entertainment and current affairs blog MDN News on X (formerly Twitter), South Africans flooded the comments with a mix of humour and criticism. Some expressed concern over the misuse of police resources, while others joked that the trader might have gotten the van from a police friend who was purchasing herbs. A few even took screenshots of the video and the patrol car’s number in an attempt to hold the officers accountable.

Here are some of the reactions:

@The_A_Wagon:

There’s a shortage of van when the community reports issues of crime and abuse.

@DollyBy2:

Just a police friend, come to support the business during lunch time! 😅🤣🤣

@Zweli_Thixo:

He probably gave some to fellow prisoners too, the guards are not safe. 😭

@NNkatekOO:

This is proof that his mpesu is legit 😭😭

@flare_now:

Lawlessness nje this… When a police van cannot be respected. Who allowed this, under who’s watch was this granted permission to advertise imbiza, mpesu and all..
