But their dreams were shattered when they were brutally killed in their shack in Evaton West on Monday, 19 June 2023.

Wedding Dreams Shattered As Lovebirds Shot Dead

Mmokgo Ramele and Tefo Maqabe were both teachers who met at a school where they worked. They fell in love and decided to get married on 1 July 2023. They had been busy preparing for their big day, buying clothes, rings, and decorations.

But their happiness was cut short when unknown assailants stormed into their shack and shot them both in the head. They stole some of their personal belongings and appliances and fled the scene.

EWN reported that the couple’s bodies were discovered by Ramele’s grandmother, Dimakatso Tsotetsi, who lived next door. She woke up around 4 am and noticed their lights were on and the door was open. She went to check on them and found them lying in a pool of blood.

Briefly added that she screamed for help and alerted the neighbours and the police. The paramedics arrived, but it was too late to save them.

The family and the community are devastated by the loss of the couple, described as peaceful, loving, and hardworking. They suspect that the robbery was a cover-up for a planned murder, and they want justice.

“They didn’t deserve to die like animals. They were good people who had a bright future ahead of them. The people who did this are heartless and evil. We want them to be caught and punished,” Tsotetsi said.

The police have opened a double murder and house robbery case and are appealing for any information that could help with the investigation.

“We are following all possible leads, and we urge anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward. We will not rest until we find the perpetrators and bring them to book,” Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, spokesperson for Gauteng police, said.
