Westonaria Teenager Dies After Being Hit By A Ball During Football Match
In a heartbreaking incident, Tlhokomelo Phasa, a promising 17-year-old player from the West Youth Academy (WYA), tragically passed away after sustaining a severe chest injury during a youth soccer match.

According to reports, Phasa was struck in the chest by the ball during the game against Jacaranda Callies. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel on the scene, they were unable to revive the young athlete.
In a Facebook post, WYA expressed their profound sorrow over the loss of their U17 player. They shared a video of Phasa and conveyed their heartfelt condolences to his family. The post read:
“We send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Thlokomelo Kevin Mareme Phasha. Our u17 player who passed on the field of play on the 21/07/2024, whilst playing against Jacanda callies in an u19 match.”

Heartfelt Condolences, Memorial and Funeral Details
The academy also extended their sympathies to the players, parents, and fans who witnessed the incident:
“We pray for emotional and mental healing during this time of great loss. To freinds [sic] and schoolmates may you find healing, his joyful memories shall live on..”
WYA announced that the funeral will be done at Mohlakeng. WYA asked its supporters and players to meet at Phasa’s place on Monday.
“We humbly request that all players and supporters meet today at Kelvins place in Westonaria Zennia park at 15:00 … Those who will be coming from school can join us there… Funeral preparations will be done at mohlakeng …. So this is our last chance to bid support at his residence ….,”the announcement read.
Phasa had recently celebrated his 17th birthday on July 14, and WYA had taken to social media to wish him a happy birthday using his nickname, “Kevin.”
