Where Comedy Awaits: Trevor Noah’s New Show Unveiled After Exiting The Daily Show

South Africa’s Emmy-winning comedian Trevor Noah and former host of The Daily Show, has inked a deal with Spotify to start a new weekly podcast on the streaming platform.

The podcast, which does not have a title yet, will debut later this year and feature Noah’s commentary on timely topics and in-depth conversations with influential figures from around the world, Spotify announced on Tuesday at Cannes Lions.

The podcast will be a Spotify Original podcast, produced under the recently combined Spotify Studios umbrella that includes podcast shops Gimlet and Parcast. However, unlike some of Spotify’s previous exclusive talent deals, Noah’s podcast will be available on all major platforms.

Trevor said he was excited to join Spotify on a “fun new adventure” where he would engage in “interesting and meaningful conversations” with his guests. He also said he would leverage “new technologies” to connect with audiences.

Noah’s podcast deal comes six months after he left The Daily Show after seven years at the helm. He wanted to pursue other creative opportunities, including more stand-up shows worldwide.

The comedian took over The Daily Show from Jon Stewart in 2015 and quickly made it his own with his unique perspective and global outlook.

He also adapted to the challenges of the pandemic by hosting the show from his home and launching The Daily Social Distancing Show, which earned him six Emmy nominations and two wins. He also produced and hosted several specials for Comedy Central, such as The Yearly Show and Votegasm 2020.

Noah’s departure from The Daily Show left a big void in the late-night landscape, as he was one of the few hosts of colour and one of the most popular among young viewers.

His successor has not been announced yet, but Comedy Central said they are looking for someone who can carry on the legacy of the show while bringing their own voice and vision.
