Zahara Doppelgänger Drama: Csana Sparks Fan Fury and Flying Fists With Her Performance
In a shocking turn of events, Eastern Cape songstress Csana found herself in the midst of chaotic attacks after fans mistakenly believed she was imitating Zahara.
Csana, born Nonguquko Mlaza, performed in her hometown of Port St John on 16 June.
Csana Comments On The Zahara Doppelgänger Drama
The soulful singer is still traumatised by the incident:
“All I saw was a can flying towards me and a few drunk people hurling insults at me, saying I am not Zahara as if that is how I introduced myself. I now get why some people walk around with bodyguards. I honestly don’t want to dwell on that too much because I will be giving hooligans and bullies power and glory, but my message to them is that if you don’t like something, walk away from it. It’s unfortunate that God gave me this talent, and I am embracing it to the fullest. This is my voice… I speak and sing with the same voice. I am not trying to be Zahara.”
Zahara Comparison Pulling Her Down
Csana revealed to Zimoja the challenges she faces in penetrating the mainstream music industry, primarily due to comparisons drawn between her and Zahara. Despite entering the scene around the same time as Zahara, Csana has encountered delays in achieving her breakthrough.
The constant accusations of copying Zahara’s style have become tiresome for her:
“I love and respect Zahara. I don’t even think I sound like her. The fact that I also play the guitar does not mean I am mimicking her style.”
Earlier this year, she faced a setback when she accidentally left her guitar in an e-hailing service vehicle. The driver, who had initially promised to return it, was now refusing to do so. The delay in retrieving her guitar directly impacted the progress of her upcoming album.
