Zamani Mbatha Bares Soul On Rhythm City’s Cancellation Just After He Joined
Award-winning actor Zamani Mbatha has opened up on his feelings following the cancellation of eTV telenovela, Rhythm City just after he had joined the show.
Mbatha who is the brother of Nomzamo Mbatha shot to prominence playing the role of his namesake, Zamani on the drama Isithembiso. He recently joined Rhythm City where he is now playing the role of Pule Ndlovu, the adopted son of fan-favorite, Suffocate (played by Mduduzi Mabaso).
Unfortunately, almost as soon as he joined the show, it was announced that the long-running soapie which is in its 13th season was getting cancelled. The show will be canned next year.
Zamani who was relishing the chance of working with the people he grew up looking up to said that he was pained by the development. However, he chose to be philosophical about it and said that he would make the most of the few remaining months on the show and give it his all.
Speaking to Drum Magazine, Zamani said,
“I am sad and heartbroken about it.
“However, I will not carry it with me the whole way up until the end. So, I have decided that I am going to make the most of the last months I have on the show, performing even 10 times better than now.”
Speaking on his experiences in the industry and working on Rhythm City, the talented actor said that he feels at home on the show.
“When I started, I didn’t know that this is where I will end up,” he says.
“I went from not knowing what acting was, to being an actor and ekugcineni ngigcine sengisebenza nabantu engikhule ngibukela kubo [in the end I ended up working with people I grew up looking up too.]
“And the most beautiful part about Rhythm City is that they are very welcoming, there are like a family.
We will just have to be content with enjoying the rest of Rhythm City as the long-running daily drama will air its last episode on 16 July 2021 at 7:00 PM, marking the end of an era
