Well-known South African actor Luthuli Dlamini, best remembered for his role in the popular series Scandal, is reportedly experiencing severe financial distress and homeless.
After struggling to secure acting roles, he has been forced into a challenging living situation, residing in an abandoned property in Randburg, Johannesburg. The house is allegedly frequented by individuals struggling with substance abuse.
Life in a Derelict House
The abandoned property where Luthuli allegedly resides is located in the heart of Randburg’s CBD, near the bustling taxi rank. According to local residents, the actor has lived in the property for nearly a year, sharing the space with strangers. Despite the difficult circumstances, the community has shown empathy. A neighbour remarked,
“We all recognize him and understand that life can be unpredictable. No one here judges him.”
Another resident shared that while the house is not an ideal living arrangement, Luthuli has earned the respect of those around him.
“He lives with a group of men who seem to look up to him. It’s just how life unfolds sometimes,” the neighbor added.
Sources close to the actor suggest that his dire situation stems from a lack of work opportunities in the entertainment industry.

The actor’s grief after losing child
Earlier this year, Luthuli endured the heartbreaking loss of his child, a tragedy that has deeply affected him. A neighbor disclosed,
“He hasn’t been himself since the loss. He avoids discussing it, but you can see the pain when he briefly mentions it.”
When approached for comment by Zimoja, Luthuli confirmed the devastating event but declined to go into detail, saying,
“It’s a deeply personal matter. I’d rather not speak about it.”

Unpaid Work and Legal Struggles
Adding to his financial woes, Luthuli has faced challenges in receiving payment for past acting projects. In 2022, he worked on a drama series titled *Empty Love*, produced by Mercier Bangala. Despite completing the project in September of that year, he was reportedly not paid the R150,000 owed to him.
This financial dispute escalated to the point where Luthuli reportedly occupied the producer’s home after being unable to pay his rent. The series ultimately never aired, leaving the actor even more precarious. Efforts to contact Luthuli for further comments have been unsuccessful, as his phone remains unreachable.
