Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s Bodyguard Commits Suicide After Deadly Hit-and-Run

In a heartbreaking sequence of events, a bodyguard assigned to King Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s royal VIP protection unit has reportedly taken his own life after being involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Verulam. The incident unfolded on Friday when the bodyguard’s black Toyota Fortuner, equipped with blue lights, struck and killed a woman named Thina Mtshali.

The tragedy occurred on the Phoenix Highway, where the bodyguard’s vehicle hit Mtshali. Instead of stopping, the driver fled the scene, abandoning the damaged vehicle in a nearby sugarcane field. The car was later discovered, but not before the driver had taken steps to cover his tracks.

Philie kaMaNgidi Mtshali, the victim’s sister, expressed her deep sorrow and anger over the incident. She recounted how the driver not only fled the scene but also attempted to evade accountability by reporting the vehicle as stolen.

“He ran away to report the vehicle as stolen and left my sister to die like a dog. He even sent someone later to remove the number plate. They didn’t know that a local security company had already taken pictures of the number,” she said.

Philie vowed to pursue justice relentlessly, refusing to allow her sister’s death to go unanswered.

“We won’t rest until justice is served. We won’t let the suspect get away with the murder of our sister,” kaMaNgidi Mtshali said.

By Monday morning, the situation took a further tragic turn when it was reported that the bodyguard had taken his own life in Umhlanga, north of Durban. The police, who had been investigating the hit-and-run, confirmed the development.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda stated that a culpable homicide case had been opened following the incident. He confirmed that the vehicle was found abandoned and that the bodyguard had previously reported it as stolen. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full details of who was driving at the time of the incident, with a case of vehicle theft also under investigation.
