Aaron Moloisi Finally Speaks On Being Sangoma

Established actor and TV presenter Aaron Moloisi has finally addressed speculation that he is a sangoma. Moloisi dismissed all speculation that he is sangoma and has a spiritual calling from his ancestors.

This comes after eagle-eyed fans noted that the actor sometimes wears traditional beads around his neck and wrists. These beads are culturally associated with izangoma and people born with spiritual gifts. Due to this, some fans quickly concluded that Aaron Moloisi is a sangoma and started addressing him as “thokoza mkhulu,” a greeting that is traditionally reserved for izangoma.

However, the TV host denied having a spiritual calling and insisted that he only wears the beads because he is proud of his African culture. Aaron also said that people should not read much into the way he is addressed by some people as “thokoza mkhulu”. He explained that the greeting can also be used as a sign of respect.

Speaking to the Daily Sun, the Umphakathi presenter said,

“Just because people call me mkhulu or say thokoza gogo or mkhulu doesn’t mean I’m a sangoma. They say that out of respect.

“I’m African and proud,”

Just to be clear that he has no issues with being a sangoma, Moloisi went on to say that if he is to become a Sangoma, he will proudly announce it as it is not something that he is ashamed of. The former The Queen actor said that he has a lot of respect for people who have undergone spiritual journeys to become sangomas.

Some of Mzansi’s celebs are deeply spiritual and have embraced their traditional African spirituality and ancestral callings. These include Dawn Thandeka King, Dineo Langa, Boity Thulo, Kelly Khumalo, Letoya Makhene, Lerato Mvelase, Buhlebendalo Mda and Skeem Saam star, Mlungisi Bafana Mathe, who plays the role of Emkay Biyela, just to name a few.
