Police Minister Bheki Cele has provided an update in the investigation into the tragic murder of rapper AKA.

Cele disclosed that the South African Police Service (SAPS) has successfully identified the individuals responsible for the shooting incident.

The Circumstances Surrounding the Rapper’s Demise

On February 10, AKA and his friend, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, met a brutal end when they were attacked by two assailants in Durban. The rapper had been in KwaZulu-Natal to celebrate his birthday and had just finished dinner with friends.

CCTV footage captured the chilling moment when two armed suspects approached AKA and Tibz as they were leaving the restaurant and heading towards their vehicle. One of the suspects fired a close-range shot, fatally striking AKA behind his ear. The other assailant unleashed a hail of bullets in the direction of the group.

The suspects swiftly fled the scene on foot and have thus far evaded capture. The motive behind this shocking act remains shrouded in mystery, and diligent police inquiries are currently underway.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi disclosed that detectives are meticulously combing evidence, including video footage, cellphone records, communication records, and social media activity.

Police Minister Bheki Cele shared the latest update on the AKA murder investigation. He revealed that Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, had shared pertinent information pertaining to the case.

“The cars have been found, people have been identified, and even the firearm used was found. We would request that police are given the space, and they must resist the push that might end up breaking their case even before they achieve the proper investigation. I want to thank communities who continue to support the work of the police by providing valuable information to the SAPS to assist in police investigations and those who bring forward information that assists the overall intelligence community.”
