Award-winning Hollywood actress, singer-songwriter, and dancer Nondumiso Tembe has finally spoken out after her only daughter’s sudden death on Sunday.

Anele ‘Nellie’ Tembe jumped to her death from a 15 storey Cape Town hotel on Sunday morning.

Her tragic and senseless death left many confused as to what had triggered her to commit suicide.

It is believed she had been suffering from depression and had attempted to kill herself sometime last year but was stopped by the police.

Nellie (22) was engaged to South Africa’s hip hop muso AKA and he had just come from paying lobola for her.

On Sunday evening, both Nellie and AKA’s families released a joint statement expressing their shock and pain at her sudden death.

“We are still in shock and are dealing with our emotions, as she was an exceptional and gifted young woman, with so much life ahead of her. She had a sweet nature about her and was always nurturing to those around her. Her fiancé, Kiernan Forbes, is currently inconsolable and is surrounded by family and closest friends. At this hour of our grief, we humbly request that our families be given privacy and time to heal,” they wrote.

Today midnight, Nellie’s mother Nondumiso Tembe took to Twitter to express her grief over her daughter’s death.

She also thanked all who had expressed support and comfort for her and her family.

“My baby,

Ngiphelelwe amazwi – Words fail me right now.

We will hold you in our hearts forever.

Lala kahle, mbali yethu

Thank you so much to everyone who has sent kind words of comfort for our family, ngiyathokoza kakhulu.”
