South African celebrity Bonang Matheba, known as one of the country’s most beloved personalities, faced a chilly reception from the cast of the Netflix reality show “Young, Famous, and African.” The highly-anticipated second season of the show was released on Friday, May 19.
In the first episode, Bonang Matheba makes a glamorous entrance at a dinner party hosted by Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz. Nigerian socialite and fashion designer Swanky Jerry introduces her to the tight-knit circle of stars. Bonang, who has her own reality show called “Being Bonang,” dazzles in a gorgeous green gown adorned with diamond accessories.

Among the attendees at the party are Diamond’s baby mama Zari Hassan, Khanyi Mbau, Nadia Nakai, Naked DJ, and his girlfriend Kayleigh Schwark. Franky, Andile Ncube, and their friend Annie Idibia are also present.
Describing herself as an “all-round bad-a** Tswana girl,” Bonang acknowledges her strong personality and the discipline that has contributed to her success. She anticipates tension and surprises as she makes her debut on the show, recognizing that her presence may elicit a range of reactions.

Avoiding the Cold Shoulder from Khanyi Mbau and Nadia Nakai
As soon as Bonang enters the party, Nadia Nakai and her friend Khanyi Mbau promptly make their exit. In a confessional interview, Bonang expresses feeling awkward and describes the cold welcome she received from the other cast members.
Nadia Nakai, who was dating AKA, Bonang’s ex at the time, confesses to having beef with Bonang. Reflecting on their history, she explains that she felt heartbroken as she considered Bonang to be like a sister. Nadia acknowledges that disagreements can occur in relationships and emphasizes that it’s okay to fall out.
Khanyi Mbau adds that she and Bonang are not friends and their relationship has always been strictly professional within the industry. She admits to never fully understanding Bonang’s personality and actions.
