A man named Mbuso Moloi was caught stealing groceries from a Woolworths store during the KwaZulu-Natal riots in July 2021. He was driving a Mercedes Benz car at the time, which was seized and forfeited by the Asset Forfeiture Unit. Moloi recently pleaded guilty to theft and breaking traffic laws during the riots.
Many people on social media are talking about Moloi’s case. Some say he was unlucky to get caught and punished for stealing just a basket of groceries, while others think he deserved it.

@ZenzeleKhubeka9;
This is how bad luck looks like, there’re people who got away with more than 5 fridges, tv’s, washing machines and many more appliances but this guy got arrested for a few groceries
@BlueN_Kapok;

@Bveniguru;
Real definition of foolishness or maybe evil spirits following oneself. You drive a swanky car and in the heat of the moment get allured into looting goods worth less than a full tank of your car’s fuel which you obviously afford, later on, lose the car and earn a criminal record
The riots were caused by the imprisonment of former President Jacob Zuma, and many people looted stores and caused damage during the unrest. Over 350 people died, and there was a lot of economic damage.
July 2021 riots
The riots started on July 9, 2021, in KwaZulu-Natal, and then spread to Gauteng on July 11. They were the worst outbreak of violence in South Africa since the end of Apartheid. The violence was caused by several factors, including economic inequality, job losses, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
