Defence counsel Thulani Mngomezulu has introduced allegations suggesting that Longwe Twala, who was not present during the court session, may be linked to the murder of Senzo Meyiwa. The defence has pointed fingers at Twala may be the culprit who killed the late soccer star.
Defence accuses Longwe Twala of the murder.
Mngomezulu, representing accused Muzi Sibiya, questioned investigating officer Sergeant Batho Mogola during cross-examination at the High Court in Pretoria.
Currently, five individuals are standing trial for the murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain, who was fatally shot in 2014.
According to Mngomezulu’s assertions, Twala, who was reportedly present at the Khumalo residence on the night of the incident, is believed to have fired the fatal shot.
Mngomezulu emphasized, “This defence argument stands independent of the state’s case. I intend to summon that witness. The individual responsible for Senzo Meyiwa’s demise is not among us in this courtroom.”
In response, Mogola rebutted, stating, “The perpetrators of Senzo Meyiwa’s murder are present in this courtroom.”
“Senzo was shot. Based on the evidence available to me, Senzo was shot while attempting to separate Longwe and Zandi, who were engaged in a physical altercation,” Mngomezulu intervened.
