DJ Tira’s Afrotainment recording studios were targeted in a break-in on Wednesday night, April 24, dealing yet another setback to award-winning rapper Duncan.

The burglary resulted in the theft of all equipment, including hard drives containing Duncan’s unreleased music from his upcoming album, “Incwadi Yezono.”

DJ Tira’s Afrotainment Recording Studio Broken Into: Duncan’s Unreleased Songs Stolen

Duncan, whose real name is Sphamandla Mbambo, expressed frustration, noting this was the third time his unreleased songs had been stolen during studio thefts. Despite the setback, he expressed gratitude that some of his music was preserved in a backroom studio in his hometown.

However, four of his new songs were among the stolen items. Due to the demand for Afrotainment’s main studio, Duncan often records in local backroom studios to capture the authentic “kasi vibe.”

“I want to feel the kasi vibe now. I’m using kasi studios to record my music and only use Afrotainment’s main studio when I’m recording a song featuring top musicians because I can’t take them to small kasi studios,” Duncan, who scooped the Best Remix at Metro FM Music Awards in 2014, said.

He declined to name the artists featured on his upcoming album, set for release in June.

Past Theft Incidents: Leaked Album and Stolen Music

Reflecting on past incidents, Duncan recalled how his debut album, “Street Government,” was leaked after equipment containing his work was stolen before its release in 2013. A similar incident occurred nearly three years ago when music for the album “Slogan Sekasi” was stolen during an armed robbery.

“Equipment with my work was stolen before its release and that resulted in my album being leaked. I was hurt because I released my debut album when many people already heard it, especially in KwaMashu,” he recalled.

Despite these challenges, Duncan remains focused and determined to move forward with his music career.
