Assassination Plot Against Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi Uncovered, Minister Targeted in Extortion Scheme

An alarming assassination plot targeting South Africa’s Home Affairs Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, has been uncovered.

This came to light after Aaron Motsoaledi reported an extortion attempt to the South African Police Service (SAPS) after receiving calls from an individual claiming to have been hired to assassinate him.

 Minister Motsoaledi Opens Case After ‘Assassination Plot’ Extortion Attempt

According to a police officer who spoke on condition to the Sunday World, the unidentified caller, known as Vusi, contacted Motsoaledi multiple times in December 2022. He reportedly informed the Home Affairs minister that a bounty of R60,000 had been placed on his life. In a demand for payment, Vusi insisted that Motsoaledi pay him R80,000 to cancel the alleged assassination plot.

Allegedly, Vusi requested that Motsoaledi compensate him to spare his life. The supposed plan involved Vusi using the funds received from Motsoaledi to eliminate those who had contracted him for the assassination.

Motsoaledi, however, refused to comply and instead filed a case of extortion at the Brooklyn police station.

The statement indicated that Motsoaledi was in the Waterkloof area of Pretoria at the time of the calls. The suspect persistently contacted Motsoaledi, urging him to deposit the funds into a Capitec Bank account, as stated in the police statement.

Investigation Underway: Extortion Case Referred to Special Unit as Authorities Pursue Arrests

Sergeant RG Mathebula registered the case, which has been referred to the serious economic offences unit for investigation. Hawks spokesperson Thandi Mbambo confirmed that a case of extortion had been opened at the Brooklyn police station.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and police investigations are ongoing.
