Eusebius McKaiser’s Death: More South African Celebrities With Epilepsy
The sudden death of Eusebius McKaiser this week has sent shockwaves through South Africa. McKaiser, a well-known radio presenter, passed away on Tuesday, 30 May, after experiencing a suspected epileptic seizure. He was only 45 years old.
According to reports by News24, McKaiser had been battling epilepsy for the past three years. His family spokesperson, Deon Hilpert, expressed the difficulty they are facing, stating, “We are still trying to make sense of his sudden passing, and it’s a very, very difficult time for us.”
As of now, the funeral and memorial arrangements are yet to be confirmed.
Other Prominent Figures with Epilepsy
Jonty Rhodes
Jonty Rhodes, the retired Proteas cricketer, has been open about his experience living with epilepsy. In an interview with Joy magazine, Rhodes explained that he has a “mild” form of epilepsy, which means his seizures are triggered only by a concussion. As a result, he does not require medication and can move around freely, including driving.
Rhodes emphasized that this is not the case for everyone with epilepsy, as many individuals have a more severe form of the condition. They may be restricted from driving or operating heavy machinery due to the risk of seizures.
Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala
Tokollo Tshabalala, the former member of TKZee, tragically passed away following a fatal epileptic seizure. Tshabalala developed epilepsy after sustaining a severe brain injury in a car accident back in 2001.

The popular Kwaito star, revealed that he was diagnosed with epilepsy in recent years. In an interview with Podcast and Chill, he shared his struggle, stating, “I lost a lot of weight over the past year. I was extremely sick, I was home, and I was shaking. Everybody around me was scared I was going to die.”
ProKid
In 2018, the hip-hop community mourned the loss of ProKid, a talented rapper who passed away after a deadly epileptic seizure. The exact duration of his battle with epilepsy remains unclear.
Musa Manzini
Manzini, a renowned jazz musician, sadly lost his life last month due to a severe seizure. Manzini developed epilepsy following a rare head surgery called craniotomy in 2018.
