The Gcaba family has finally released a statement to address the allegations surrounding Mfundo’s alleged role in AKA and Tibz murder cases he is charged with by the state.
The family of a well-known entrepreneur from Durban, who has been linked to the financing of one of the individuals involved in the tragic deaths of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, has released a statement addressing the accusations.
Suspects in court over AKA and Tibz’s murders
The suspects – Lindokuhle Thabani Mkhwanazi (30), Lindani Zenzele Ndimande (35), Siyanda Eddie Myeza (21), Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni (36), and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande (29) – are facing multiple charges including conspiracy to commit murder, murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, five counts of attempted murder, and money laundering. They are currently undergoing a bail application process.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution claimed that Sydney Mfundo Gcaba, a businessman based in Durban, made a payment of R803,455 to Gwabeni, who allegedly distributed the funds among the other suspects. Bank statements were presented to support this assertion.An affidavit presented in court indicated that Gwabeni received the payment the day after the tragic incident involving AKA and Tibz. Furthermore, records from his cellphone revealed a call made to a number associated with Gcaba, followed by the deposit of funds into Gwabeni’s account.

The Gcaba family releases statement addressing allegations
In response to these allegations, Gcaba’s family emphasized their confidence in the South African legal system and their willingness to fully cooperate with authorities.
The family clarified that the financial transactions between Gcaba and Gwabeni were solely for business purposes, spanning a long period and verifiable through bank records. They asserted that Gcaba is involved in legitimate and transparent business ventures, with no involvement in illegal activities.
Expressing concern over the lack of contact from law enforcement with Gcaba, the family urged authorities to extend the opportunity for him to present his side of the story.
Offering condolences to the families affected by the tragedy, the Gcaba family requested privacy during this challenging time, committing to provide updates as necessary.
Meanwhile, the case involving brothers Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, arrested in Eswatini, is scheduled to return to court on April 9. These individuals are relatives of Lindani Zenzele Ndimande and Lindokuhle Lindo Ndimande, two of the suspects implicated in the case.
The fatal shooting of AKA and Tibz occurred as they were leaving Wish on Florida in February last year.
