Gomora Cancelled: Set to End with Season Four, Mzansi Magic Announces
South African television network Mzansi Magic has announced that the popular telenovela, Gomora, will come to an end after its fourth season. The show has been a hit with audiences since it premiered on the channel almost three years ago, breaking viewership records within a month of its debut. The final season will premiere on 24 April 2023 at 19:30 and conclude on 20 October 2023. M-Net, which owns Mzansi Magic, made the decision to end the series as part of its efforts to keep up with changing viewership preferences.
A Story of Inequality
Gomora follows the story of two families, exploring themes of inequality and the fine line between rich and poor. The show’s executive producer, Leanne Khumalo, says that “these characters and stories will live in the hearts and homes of many people for years to come”. Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, adds that the network remains committed to bringing viewers the best content and being responsive to their changing needs and preferences. She expresses excitement about new, fresh, and exciting content to come.
What to Expect in Season Four
Fans of the telenovela can expect even higher stakes and more suspenseful plots in the fourth season. The season promises to be an emotional rollercoaster, with the young people of Gomora spiralling out of control from self-inflicted pain and generational pain. Sonto (Connie Chiume) grapples with her emotions following a killing, while the absence of Mazet (Siphesihle Ndaba) and Thathi (Katlego Danke) turns the Molefe household upside down. At the Zondo household, Sibongile (Nandipha Khubone) makes a premature decision with long-term consequences while planning her and Scara’s (Wonder Ndlovu) big day. Meanwhile, Nkosinathi (Fezile Makhanya) finds himself in a series of unfortunate financial situations at Zodwa and Bongani’s (Thulani Mtshweni) wedding.
Cast and Network move on
The network has pledged to find a suitable alternative to Gomora, which will be announced soon. As the show comes to an end, the cast and crew of Gomora are being celebrated for their incredible work and dedication after the show is cancelled. Khumalo says that the show has been an “incredible journey, paved with many special milestones and memories”, while Adonisi expresses gratitude to the cast and crew for their contributions. The legacy of Gomora will live on in the hearts and minds of viewers long after its final episode airs.
