Gospel musician and hitmaker Bucy Radebe almost took her own life at one time after slipping into depression over issues involving Dr Rebecca Malope.

Why Bucy Radebe Almost Took Her Own Life

In 2022, she hosted a live concert recording at the Sun City Super Bowl in the North West. She invited a stellar lineup of artists, including the legendary Dr Rebecca Malope.

Before Dr Malope went on stage to perform her hit single Nkarabe alongside Bucy, the singer’s husband, manager Thapelo Thobokelaunched insults at her backstage, allegedly saying “f*ck off” when she refused to comply with a programme she had not been told about.

She took to X to express her agony:

“I am so hurt. I’ve never experienced such disrespect as I did last night. I thought I’d be fine this morning, but I’m not okay. South Africa, please pray for my heart to be mended 🙏🏾”

Her fans then got wind of why she was hurt and figured it was because of Bucy’s husband. The furious fans then attacked Bucy and cyberbullied her on social media. Some even went as far as sending her death threats. The issue affected her so much, and she got extremely depressed.

The harassment and threats from Dr Malope’s fans got to her so much that she attempted suicide. Bucy Radebe overdosed on sleeping pills, and fortunately, her husband found her in time. He rushed her to hospital, where she was in a critical condition, and she survived the scare.

Another issue that contributed to Bucy’s depression was her tiff with DJ Cleo. Bucy and DJ Cleo released Gcina Impilo Yami in February 2021. The song was one of the biggest releases of 2021 and has amassed almost 30 million views on YouTube so far. Bucy claimed that DJ Cleo did not pay her the royalties they agreed on in their contract. She said she was supposed to receive a percentage of the royalties every quarter, but DJ Cleo ignored her emails and requests for payment.

She threatened to take legal action against him if he did not comply with the contract. DJ Cleo said he was busy with his mid-year exams and did not check his work-related emails, so he was unaware of the situation. He apologized and paid Bucy Radebe the total amount of the royalties that he owed her.
