Gospel Singer Fatally Shot by Husband in Church
In a shocking incident that unfolded in Makonde Shadani village, just outside Thohoyandou, a gospel singer Funanani Mbedzi was shot by her husband in church.
The incident unfolded around 6 pm when Mbedzi’s husband entered the church and opened fire on his wife as the congregation was immersed in worship. Sadly, Mbedzi succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
Gospel Singer Shot By Husband During Church Service
The suspect, identified as a 53-year-old man, fled the scene in a silver-grey car following the heinous act. However, after two days, he surrendered himself to the authorities. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, although authorities are considering domestic violence as a possibility.
Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for the Limpopo SAPS, confirmed the arrest and seizure of the suspect’s licensed firearm believed to have been used in the crime.
“While the motive behind this appalling incident remains unclear, domestic violence cannot be ruled out. The man handed himself over to the police yesterday after being on the run for two days,” Colonel Ledwaba said.

Gospel Group Confirms Singer’s Tragic Passing
Mbedzi, a prominent member of the award-winning gospel group Worship House since 2004, was featured on their latest album, “Worship House Project 20,” showcasing her talent and dedication to her craft. In a sombre statement, Worship House expressed their grief over her untimely passing and promised to provide further details about her funeral arrangements soon.
“It is with heavy hearts that one of our lead singer has passed away. Funi ‘Khavhanndwele’ Mbedzi started with Worship House since Project 2. She will be dearly missed. We will share more info regarding her burial soon.”

Fatal Stabbing: Arrest Made in Separate Tragedy
In a separate incident, police in Bolobedu apprehended a 29-year-old woman suspected of fatally stabbing her 34-year-old boyfriend, Tumelu Makwala, during a heated argument at his residence in Sehlakong section of Mabosana village. The suspect promptly informed the victim’s mother of the tragic event after allegedly stabbing Makwala with a knife. Makwala was pronounced dead at the scene, and the girlfriend is set to appear in court today on a charge of murder.
