The state withdrew all the charges against Molemo ‘Jub Jub’ Maarohanye at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Jub Jub was accused of three counts of r_pe, two of attempted murder and one of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The alleged offences date back to 2006 until 2010. He was arrested in July last year and had been out on bail.

In a later from 20 June, acting Johannesburg deputy director of public prosecution, TJ Mbodi said:

“After careful perusal of the above mentioned police docket, together with the relevant prosecutors’ report read in conjunction with your representation, this office has decided to withdraw the charges against the accused as there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution…your representation is therefore successful and the criminal case against the accused must be withdrawn.”

National Prosecuting Authority’s Phindi Mjonondwana corroborated the letter.

“After consideration of the case docket, the report from the prosecutor and the representations lodged to the director of public prosecution’s office, that office came to a conclusion that there are no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution and the sensible thing to do was to withdraw the charges against Molemo Marrohanye.”

The Case

Actress Amanda du Pont accused ex-boyfriend Maarohanye of having previously admitted to r_ping her.

Amanda submitted to police in support of a r_pe case she laid against the rapper at the Brixton police station in Joburg in 2022.

Amanda first made the r_pe allegations against Jub Jub in a video clip she posted on Instagram.

This was after the rapper had bragged in an interview with podcaster MacG about “smashing” her.
