As Kelly Khumalo is implicated, former mineworker Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi confessed to receiving R45,000 for his involvement in the murder of football star Senzo Meyiwa.
The 10-Year Trial
The Pretoria High Court is currently reviewing Ntanzi’s confession, which implicates singer Kelly Khumalo as the alleged mastermind who initiated and financed the “hit.”
Meyiwa, a prominent goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana, tragically lost his life to a gunshot wound to the chest at his girlfriend’s family home on October 26, 2014. At the time of his death, he and his girlfriend shared a daughter, Thingo, who was seven months old.
Ntanzi stands trial alongside Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli for Meyiwa’s murder. Despite all defendants pleading not guilty, Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng recently ruled that the admissions made by Sibiya and Ntanzi were voluntary.
In court proceedings, Lt-Col Solomon Raphadu testified about taking Ntanzi’s confession on June 19, 2020, in Moroka. Ntanzi, then 30 years old, recounted receiving a call from a friend, Mthokoziseni, in mid-October 2014, who was accompanied by Maphisa and Mncube.

Kelly Khumalo Implicated In Senzo Meyiwa Murder
Ntanzi explained that they urgently needed his assistance for a task, and he agreed to meet them in Johannesburg. Upon arrival at the Vosloorus men’s hostel, Ntanzi encountered Sibiya and Sifiso Zungu (also known as co-accused Nkani Ntuli), who provided insider information. Ntanzi detailed how he and Mncube were designated to enter Khumalo’s home, with Ntuli as the driver, Sibiya as a guard, and Maphisa as backup stationed outside. He described surveillance conducted before the execution of the plan.
On the fateful day, they proceeded to the address between 7 pm and 8 pm. Ntanzi and Mncube entered the house, where a confrontation with Meyiwa ensued. Amidst the chaos, one suspect shot Meyiwa in the chest. Ntanzi fled the scene with the money and cellphones, leaving Mncube behind, while Maphisa retreated into the house. They regrouped at their silver Polo, where Carlos took the cash and cellphones from Ntanzi.
Ntanzi received R15,000 in cash at the hostel and another R30,000 from Nkani in Daveyton.
A dispute over payment amounts led to tension within the group, resulting in Sibiya allegedly disclosing details of Meyiwa’s murder. Family intervention ensued, with Sibiya’s father advising them to remain silent about the incident, a pact to which the family agreed.
