Kelly Khumalo’s Refusal to Allow Senzo Meyiwa’s Family Access to her Daughter Sparks Outrage
Social media is abuzz with discussions after it emerged that the family of the late Senzo Meyiwa is losing hope of ever meeting his daughter with Kelly Khumalo.
Kelly Khumalo has found herself getting dragged and slammed on social media for refusing to let Senzo Meyiwa’s family see her daughter, Thingo.
Senzo Meyiwa, the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, was tragically murdered at the home of Kelly Khumalo’s mother in Vosloorus in October 2014, leaving behind a daughter who was only a few months old at the time.

For years, the Meyiwa family has tried to connect with Kelly Khumalo and their granddaughter, Thingo, but to no avail. Kelly Khumalo has been steadfast in her stance, previously vowing that Senzo’s family would never see her daughter. This has created a rift, with the Meyiwa family expressing their pain and frustration over the lack of contact.
According to a relative who spoke to ZiMoja, the family met Thingo only once, when Senzo brought her to Umlazi, near Durban, with Kelly’s mother. Since Senzo’s murder, multiple attempts to reach out to Kelly have been unsuccessful.
“Family members were still hurt at the time. It’s understandable that she could not bring Thingo to Senzo’s funeral because the whole country blamed his death on her,” the source said.
Attempts to Reach Out to Kelly Khumalo Unsuccessful
In a 2023 interview with eNCA, Senzo’s brother, Sifiso, revealed that their sister, Nokuthula, tried contacting Kelly after Senzo’s death, but Kelly did not respond. Sifiso mentioned that even their mother’s sister attempted to connect with the Khumalo family, but their efforts were met with silence.
Meyiwa Family Yearns for Relationship with Senzo’s Daughter
The Meyiwa family had hoped that, over time, Kelly would allow them to see Thingo.
“It has been ten years now, and Senzo’s mother Ntombi and his sister Zama are desperate to have a relationship with the girl.
All they want is to spend time with Thingo so that she knows her siblings, cousins, aunts, and uncles. It is unfair for the child to only hear about the Meyiwa family in the media and not spend time with them.”
