Imposter Exposed: Posing as a Lawyer, Kenyan Man Arrested After Winning 26 Legal Cases

Instances of regular citizens posing as professionals aren’t limited to South Africa, as evidenced by a recent incident in Kenya.

In Kenya, a man was arrested for impersonating a lawyer after successfully handling twenty-six cases. The man in question, Brian Mwenda Njagi, had falsely portrayed himself as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.

A Startling Streak of Legal Victories

Reports reveal that the man had managed to navigate through 26 legal cases before High Court Judges, Magistrates, and Court of Appeal Judges, winning each one. His arrest was carried out by the Law Society of Kenya Nairobi Branch Rapid Action Team (RAT).

The RAT apprehended him after receiving multiple public complaints about his deceptive activities. According to records from the Law Society of Kenya, he neither possesses the credentials nor the legal license to practice law in Kenya.

Mixed Reactions from South Africa As Kenyan Fake Lawyer Is Arrested

In a related development, former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has expressed his willingness to bail out Brian Mwenda Njagi. In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, Sonko also pledged to sponsor Brian’s pursuit of legal studies at the Kenya School of Law. Sonko marveled at how a man who had never attended law school could confidently argue in court and secure favourable judgments.

“I will bait out this comrade and sponsor him to go to Kenya School of Law if he lacks funds. This man has been masquerading as an advocate. He never went to any law school and KSL. Achievements: Argued 26 cases before Magistrates, High Court Judges & Court of Appeal Judges and won all 26 cases until he was caught today,” Sonko said on Friday, October 13.
