A man hailing from a village in Limpopo set himself ablaze after failing to endure the trouble he faced from his abusive wife.

The man, whose identity is yet to be made public, shocked the quiet community of Legabeng village near Burgersfort, Limpopo, when he decided to cut his life short to “relieve” himself of the torment from his wife.

In a harrowing turn of events, the man walked to a remote area near the Marula Platinum mine with a fuel container. The depressed husband drenched himself in the flammable liquid and even drank some before setting himself alight.

As he became a fiery ball of flames, he sprinted toward a nearby mine, where terrified workers watched in horror as he approached them. The quick-thinking miners extinguished the fire and immediately called for medical assistance.

As paramedics rushed to the scene, the man, visibly shaken and in immense pain, revealed that his drastic actions were driven by unending relationship troubles with his wife. He claimed he had suffered long-term abuse, which had left him feeling trapped and hopeless.

Authorities are investigating the case, but the incident has already sent shockwaves through the community. Neighbours expressed their disbelief and sorrow over the tragic events, with many saying they had no idea the man was experiencing abuse.
