Superstar Makhadzi has revealed that she’s facing financial difficulties and had to borrow money to attend the BET Awards.
From Limpopo To LA
Makhadzi, the Limpopo-born artist, had a remarkable moment at the BET Awards 2024. The ceremony was held at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, in the United States of America.
On her birthday, Makhadzi clinched the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act award. In her emotional acceptance speech, she expressed that her dream had finally come true.
South Africa celebrated not only Makhadzi’s victory but also the success of Afrobeats pop star Tyla, who won both Best New Artist and Best International Act at the same event.

Makhadzi Borrowed From A Loan Shark To Attend The BET Awards
In the United States, Makhadzi met up with MacG and Sol Phenduka of Podcast And Chill for an interview. The interview occurred hours before the award ceremony, and MacG asked her to pray she received the gong.
During the prayer, Makhadzi said:
“I wouldn’t leave home and travel 24 hours for me to travel without the award. You are the one who enabled me to borrow that money for the flight and come here, and I know you have a purpose for it.”
After the prayer, MacG was surprised that Makhadzi borrowed money to travel for the BET Awards. The MaGear hitmaker explained her predicament:
“I’m going through a lot. It’s not a secret. I was in the newspapers. I don’t know who sold me out. Every money that I get monthly, I’m paying SARS (South African Revenue Service).
“So, I end up not having money for myself. So for me to come here, I had to go to a loan shark. So [my team] had to borrow money for me so I could get into the business class because I have to be the superstar that I am.”
Limpopo-born singer Makhadzi revealed she borrowed money to attend the 19th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, where she won the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act award.
