The man who was caught on camera along with his other two accomplices killing bread delivery workers in Capetown is begging to stay in hospital after he was caught and arrested last week.
Ayanda Dayi appeared in the Belville Magistrates Court, facing charges of murder and robbery after allegedly shooting a bread truck driver and a crew member. The incident was captured on a dashcam in Delft, Cape Town. The camera footage later trended on social media, and they faced much backlash.
Hospital Stay Request after arrest
After being apprehended, Dayi requested to remain in Deft Day Hospital, where he was receiving treatment for injuries sustained during an assault by community members. He expressed fears for his safety if he is held in custody.
When he was caught by the community members who attacked him, Dayi was said to have been committing more crimes. It was only when he was in hospital that someone identified him from the trending video where he helped murder bread delivery workers. The police, acting on the rip-off, quickly arrested him while he was in the hospital and remanded him in custody.
Court proceedings in the murder case
The court postponed the matter to July 2 for a bail hearing. Dayi also requested a Xhosa-speaking interpreter, citing issues with the Zulu interpreter provided.

The police are still asking for help from the public to locate and apprehend the two remaining criminals who are at large. Anyone who knows their whereabouts must report to the nearest police station and help lead to their arrest.
