Minister Gayton McKenzie Unveils Damning List of Covid-19 Relief Beneficiaries

South Africans are buzzing with reactions after the Ministry of Sports, Arts, and Culture, led by Gayton McKenzie, released the list of beneficiaries of the government Covid-19 relief funds.

Scores of Celebrities Exposed for Receiving Government Covid-19 Relief Funds

On Wednesday, the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture released a damning list of beneficiaries.

This comes as Gayton McKenzie had been threatening for days to publish the list to expose the corruption and mismanagement he discovered within the department.

The list revealed scores of celebrities and entertainers who received substantial funds from the government’s Covid-19 relief program at the height of the pandemic, between 2020 and 2021.

Prominent recipients included Arthur Mafokate and his son, the Rebecca Malope Foundation, Kelly Khumalo, Busiswa Gqulu, Dumisani Mbebe, Bethusile Mcinga and her mother Lusanda.

Additionally, socialite Mohale Motaung, podcaster MacG, The Kiffness (David Scott), Masasa Mbangeni,  Khanyo Maphumulo, Jessica Mbangeni, Kholeka Sosibo, were among those who received funds.

In total, over R72 million was distributed to 3,962 artists during the first Covid-19 lockdown.
