In a disturbing development, 41 pre-school children have been hospitalized after consuming rat poison.

The 41 pre-school kids from a pre-school in Soweto reportedly ate the rat poison after mistaking it for sweets.

The children, all preschoolers aged between three and five years, got sick after eating the rat poison.

According to Zimoja, they were rushed to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto for medical treatment.

Department of Health Responds: Investigation Launched into Rat Poison Incident at Soweto Pre-School

Meanwhile, the Gauteng Department of Health has expressed concern over the incident in which 41 children were treated for poisoning after consuming rat poison. Khutso Rabothata, the department spokesperson, provided an update on the medical condition of the affected children. Out of the 41 children, 17 were admitted to the hospital for overnight observation, while the remaining 24 were discharged and allowed to return home.

The remaining 24 were discharged home in a satisfactory condition. This incident is reported to have taken place at a pre-school and investigations are being conducted to establish more facts,” Rabothata said.

The department continues to investigate the incident to gather more information and determine the underlying facts surrounding this alarming incident.
