Media personality Pabi Moloi’s ex-husband, Ruan Adams, has accused his lawyer of accepting a bribe from her to delay their divorce proceedings.
Pabi Moloi’s Ex-Husband Thinks His Lawyer Got A Bribe To Delay The Divorce
According to Sunday World, Adams allegedly informed his lawyer, Lutendo Siphuma of SL Attorneys, that he suspected a bribe had been paid either by Pabi or her legal representatives to prolong the divorce case at the Johannesburg High Court. In this legal battle, Adams is seeking half of Moloi’s assets along with monthly spousal maintenance of R8,500.
The allegations of bribery surfaced in a letter written by Siphuma to Pabi’s law firm, Ulrich Roux and Associates, announcing his withdrawal as Adams’s attorney of record. Siphuma cited receiving death threats from Adams as one of the reasons for his withdrawal.
In the letter submitted to the Johannesburg High Court, Siphuma stated:
“We have also been accused of having taken a bribe from your offices and/or from your client directly to stall the divorce process and/or the Rule 43 application, despite having fully communicated with Mr Adams that we need fees for counsel to proceed with trial as the matter is trial-ready.
“Due to his conduct, which we all can attest to, we find ourselves having to terminate our mandate as we cannot tolerate various threats and other accusations that keep coming from him and his unbecoming and continuous conduct that seriously jeopardise and disturb the attorney-client relationship.”
Additionally, Siphuma revealed intentions to file a criminal charge against Adams for the death threats and harassment.
The Nasty Divorce
Adams’s claim for 50% of Pabi’s estate, which includes multiple properties and vehicles, stems from his assertion that they were married in a community of property. However, Pabi disputes this, asserting that they were not legally married.
Siphuma’s withdrawal impacts not only Adams’s divorce case but also two multimillion-dollar lawsuits he filed against Pabi and Minister of Police Bheki Cele. These lawsuits involve allegations of wrongful arrest and stem from incidents related to disputes between Adams and Pabi.
In one lawsuit, Adams seeks R1 million from Pabi and the South African Police Service (SAPS) for wrongful arrest following a complaint filed by the media personality against him. In another lawsuit, he claims R400,000 from Pabi and Cele after being arrested at a police station during a dispute over child custody in 2022.
