SAFTAs Finally Reveal Reasons Why Katlego Maboe Was Nominated Then Removed Immediately From The List
Not so long ago there was an uproar on social media after the controversial presenter, Katlego Maboe was booted out of the SAFTAs nomination list immediately after it was revealed he stood a chance to win Best Presenter Award for the year 2020.
A month later, the publication can finally reveal that SAFTAs, through an interview with eNCA media has revealed the real reasons why they snubbed him.
Katlego made headlines early last year when a clip of him and his wife emerged on social media.
From the clip, it was learned that he had infected his wife with an STI, had been accused of Gender Based Violence and had been arrested for other assault cases.
It is in this regard that he saw himself out of the nomination list, SAFTAs claims.
But why had he beed nominated in the first place since all this had been public knowledge?
SAFTAs claim in an interview with eNCA that they received a lot of pressure from GBV organizations and gay organizations to remove Katlego from the category.
Janet Van Eeden, one of SAFTAs judge chairperson claims that the panel later found out that there were three more women who had also allegedly opened sexual assault cases against the presenter. Further to that, Katlego had also breeched a protection order against him by his ex-wife.
SAFTAs claim that when all this was brought up to them by the rights group (after the nomination announcement), they then had deliberations that led to his removal from the nomination list.
