DJ Zinhle has clarified herself, to no avail, after she said South African youths are unemployable and lack skills.

DJ Zinhle Says South African Youths Are Unemployable

Zinhle Jiyane was on an interview at radio station 702. The presenter then asked about some of the challenges she experienced at her Era By Zinhle stores.

She then explained that South African youths are unemployable. DJ Zinhle said with a straight face:

“One thing about South African youth is not just that they are unemployed. A lot of them are unemployable. They don’t have the skill that is required. It bugs me how long it takes to fill up positions as Era just to find the right person for our stores.

“It literally takes longer than it should for a country that has so much unemployment. We’re opening a new store at Highveld in Witbank. We are just looking for three people.”

The remark elicited anger on social media.

Mli:

“The unemployable youth needs to revisit this clip when deciding to buy her products.”

Beth:

“I’m asking myself what skills one needs to sell earrings and watches or to be a cashier or even a shelf packer…hai bo DJ Zinhle….or there are spreadsheets and Excel formulas??”

Lisa:

“🤣🤣🤣🤣she’s looking for people that won’t expose her cheap products that she’s is selling for ridiculous price 🤣🤣🤣”

Lololu:

“Most of this is fraud set-up business. They jump in, blaming the staff instead of checking themselves. Have company policy, SOP, and business process. No one was born working. That means you must train your staff to understand your business vision, mission and objective.”

DJ Zinhle Responds To The Backlash

The Indlovu hitmaker took note of the criticism and reacted on X:

“I’m glad we are talking about this. Firstly. I apologise if I offended anyone. I wasn’t attacking the youth at all, as a small business owner I do employ and train people, but this doesn’t even start to solve the problems we are facing as the South African youth.

“I could do more with support from the government. How do we up-skill our youth so that they are ready for employment? Are we in denial that we are not getting the jobs we want because we do not have the skills required?”
