‘Thabo Bester Copycat?’: Tshwane Couple Arrested After ‘Dead’ Husband Was Caught Driving Stolen Car
A couple from Tshwane has been arrested after the dead husband was caught driving a stolen car a year after reportedly dying in a home fire. Now, the police are investigating who was buried in his place.
Sibusiso Mahlangu and his wife Lerato of Soshanguve, have been charged with murder, perjury, and fraud. However, authorities are yet to reveal who was buried in Mahlangu’s place and are preparing applications to exhume the body.
Whose Body was buried?
The body is believed to be that of Lerato’s ex-boyfriend, Sibusiso Sithebe, the father of her child. He was reported missing on January 1, 2022, after he failed to return from a job in Hammanskraal. Sithebe’s sister, Linah, said that he attended his child’s birthday celebration with his new fiancée before he disappeared.
The family reported a missing persons case and asked a relative who worked for a mobile operator to track Sithebe’s phone. They traced the last number he contacted and called it. Lerato answered and said she had not seen or heard from him since October or November 2021.

Lerato told Linah that Sithebe had been killed and the news of his disappearance was stressing her out because she had just lost her husband. She claimed that she was sitting on the mattress grieving when the fire occurred, and she could not save him. The burnt victim was found wearing a ring belonging to Mahlangu.
