Alas, a tragedy has befallen South Africa, for the Hip Hop legend, AKA, has succumbed to his death on the eve of his birthday celebration in Durban.
Whilst the murkiness of the circumstances remains, we pause to remember the last moments of his life as he took to his Instagram to reveal his whereabouts, which may have contributed to his demise. May he be remembered fondly by his fans and loved ones.Videos obtained by iHarare show that AKA left the barbershop 3 hours before his death and went to an unidentified club to meet up with his friends.
While there, he was heard saying to his friends, “Wherever I go, you go”, which his fans believe to be his last public words before his passing. Two hours after consuming drinks at the bar, he was reported dead outside the club.
Reports from iHarare suggest that an unknown individual shot AKA. Rumours have surfaced, linking his death to his late girlfriend, Anele Tembe, who died two years ago in her hometown.
However, the KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda confirmed that they are still investigating the case and looking for the suspects linked to the shooting of AKA.
“What we can confirm for now is that a well-known musician, 35 years old, and his bodyguard, who is said to be 34 years old, was shot and killed in Morningside on Florida Road on Friday night.
“What we have for now is that a musician and his security detail were leaving supper in a restaurant. So as they were leaving for their vehicle, two unknown gunmen came across the street on foot and opened fire on them, killing them instantly.
“Nobody else was quite injured apart from the two men who were killed. We will be investigating two counts of murder with the hope of finding the culprits and bringing them to justice.”
