The Years 2019 And 2020 Were Tragic Years For Skeem Saam

The years 2019 and 2020 were tragic years for Skeem Saam as the soapie lays a fourth actor to rest.

The educational soapie first lost actor; Isaac Thema Mokoena who played the role of the first Ramolao Moloisi in June 2019, then lost Charles Maja who played the role of Big-boy Mabitsela in April of this year, then laid to rest actor; Karabo Mokhubela who played the role of Jazzy T in July of this year and recently announced the passing of Paul Rapetsoa who played the role of uncle Josias this month. 

Isaac Thema: 1967- June 2019

The late Thema Mokoena passed away at Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria after a long battle with a heart condition. He had been in the hospital for two weeks!

Charles Maja: 1966 – April 2020

Veteran actor; Charles Maja who was known and loved for his role as Big Boy Mabitsela suffered a stroke in April and passed away at the age of 54. The actor had extensive roles on radio dramas on Thobela FM and played the role of Leshole Mabitsela’s father on the educational soapie. 

Karabo Mokhubela: 1980 – July 2020

Fans, friends, and the family of Mokhubela were shocked and heartbroken by the death of actor; Karabo Mokhubela who played the role of DJ Jazzy-T on Skeem Saam in July.

Paul Rapetsoa: 1950 – December 2020 

Fans of theatre legendary playwright writer, actor, and producer were heartbroken when Paul’s son; Matome Rapetsoa confirmed his passing yesterday.

“It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father, brother, and colleague; Mr. Mahuma Paul Rapetsoa. “Bra Paul” passed away today at 18:56. May your wonderful soul rest in peace Mokwena.”

Skeem Saam also mourns the legendary actor on their Twitter account: “We approach the end of 2020 with heavy hearts! Rest in peace Bra Paul, you will forever be remembered and sorely missed. We keep his family in our prayers.”

PRIDA (Paul Rapetsoa Institute Of Dramatic Arts) also paid a tribute to the actor on Facebook: “You have fought a good fight, you have finished the race, and you have kept the faith.”
