Thuso Mbedu Receives Praise From Oprah Winfrey

Amazon Prime’s most recent show the Underground Railroad is getting a ton of early buzz, and a lot of its watchers are focusing on entertainer Thuso Mbedu, who plays Cora, a youthful subjugated lady looking for opportunity on the Railroad.

Thuso, 29, is now notable in South Africa. Yet, this is her breakout role in America. So who is Thuso Mbedu, precisely? This is what you need to know about the new and upcoming actress.

Underground Railroad is the first role Thuso auditioned for in America,

“I didn’t expect anything would come from it,” she shared. Thuso further went on to share how she felt she wasn’t the right for the role.

“I had moments where I was like, I don’t even know, maybe I should tell them that I’m going to pull out because I don’t know if I’m good enough to tell the story.”

And to add to the rave reviews the show has been getting, Oprah also gushed about the starlet’s appearance in the show.

Oprah Winfrey shared a video on Instagram with the following caption,

I have been watching @theugrailroadtv all week and I have to say it is essential watching. Director @bandrybarry takes the already extraordinary novel by Colson Whitehead and turns it into a multi-part series that will live in your spirit. And @thuso.mbedu gives the performance of a lifetime. Great things are coming for her and everyone will be saying her name after watching her as the superhero that is Cora. My only advice? Pace yourself through the 10 episodes. Pause. Go outside. Take a walk. Move around. Rock yourself like I do. Drink some wine like my daughter-girl Sade. Process it. But it’ll be so worth it. Every scene is searingly profound. #TheUndergroundRailroad is an offering to the world and it’s available now on @amazonprimevideo “
