Three years after the tragic passing of Anele Tembe, her family, in collaboration with Durban Girls’ College, proudly inaugurated the Anele Tembe Memorial Library in her honour.
Anele Tembe, a beloved former student of Durban Girls’ College, met an untimely demise in April 2021, succumbing to injuries sustained from a fall from the 10th floor of the Pepper Club Hotel in Loop Street, Cape Town.
Tembe Family Honours Anele’s Legacy
The Tembe family, deeply affected by the loss of their daughter, contributed generously to the renovation and establishment of the library as a tribute to Anele’s memory.
The distinguished design of the library was crafted by alumna Andrea Kleinloog, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining excellence at Durban Girls’ College.

Anele Tembe’s Relationship With Her Former School
Vukile, Anele’s brother, expressed that the tribute library was a project close to Anele’s heart.
“Anele loved her school; it shaped part of who she was. We knew this,”
“She embraced knowledge and education. Libraries last long in a community, provided the library is consistent. Given Anele’s school and its legacy of more than 100 years, I believe they will do well in preserving this tribute for generations to come.”
Vukile acknowledged the challenging journey of healing from Anele’s passing but expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of family and friends throughout the three-year process.

Vukile reflected on the challenging journey of healing since Anele’s passing, emphasizing the importance of faith, physical activities, and the support of loved ones in the healing process.
“Over the [past] three years, it’s been a process of healing, leaning towards God and doing activities that will bring us ease — prayer, exercising, with supportive family members and friends, therefore thankful for family support and friends.”
