Tragic Ending: South African Rapper Succumbs To Lung Cancer Five Days After Diagnosis

Female South African rapper Angie Oeh has passed on, five days after announcing her stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis.

She was only 24 years old.

 

Angie Oeh’s Team Announces Her Sad Demise

Her management announced her passing on her Instagram account and said that she had been diagnosed with the terminal illness on Monday, 14 August.

“She was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer on Monday and following an emergency surgery on Tuesday, she began chemotherapy the following Thursday. 

“After the second chemo session on Friday, she began struggling with low oxygen levels in her blood and was admitted to the hospital’s vigilance unit. Everything possible was done to stabilise her, but unfortunately, things didn’t go better, and her organs started going in.”

South African Rapper Announced Diagnosis

Angie Oeh, whose real name was Angelique Greeff, had shared her diagnosis with her fans and followers on Instagram earlier that week. She expressed her fear and desperation in Afrikaans and asked for financial assistance to cover her medical bills.

“Today I have been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. I am so f* scared. Every time I have just a little time to think [about it], I cry like a p****. How the fu* does something like this happen so fast without you even knowing or feeling it?”

She said that she needed R200,000 for her treatment and appealed to her supporters to donate to a BackaBuddy campaign that was set up for her. The campaign exceeded its target and raised more than R250,000 in two days.

Angie Oeh was one of the most influential and controversial Afrikaans artists in South Africa. She started rapping in 2019 and rose to fame in 2021 with her hit song Dis Jou Wyfie, that challenged the traditional Afrikaans culture. She also collaborated with other well-known artists such as Jack Parow, Early B, and Die Heuwels Fantasies.

She also released songs such as Die Lewe is ‘n Lied.
